Motorized Avalanche Level 1 Course - Whitefish, MT

This motorized level 1 is being offered in the Flathead region of northwest Montana and will be hosted by the FOFAC. This motorized level 1 can accommodate up to 10 students. You can find out more information about this class by visiting flatheadavalanche.org.

This class focuses specifically on how motorized users communicate and travel safely in and around avalanche terrain. The classroom details are yet to be worked out, but will likely include in-person and virtual classroom time. The primary portion of the class consists of two full field days, which will be held on February 4th and 5th in the backcountry of the Flathead National Forest. Specific locations are YTD. The field portions will include lots of riding as we assess avalanche terrain, snowpack stability, communication skills, and mountain weather. Avalanche rescue drills also play a significant role in the field sessions.

This is a great opportunity to sharpen your backcountry skills, develop more confidence in your riding partners, and become a more knowledgeable and safer rider in the backcountry. All students will receive a level 1 certificate of completion.

Our Level 1 follows the guidelines set by the American Avalanche Association (AAA). Our instructors are experienced avalanche educators who provide the highest level of expertise. This course is designed to build a strong foundation of backcountry skills and is the perfect stepping stone to more advanced training in the future.
