Non-motorized Rec. Level 1 Bridger/Big Sky Backcountry (limited to 6 students)

Six Points Avalanche Education is offering a smaller, more private non-motorized Avalanche Level 1 class Dec. 28-30. This class will be limited to six students and taught by former GNFAC forecaster and owner of SPAE, Eric Knoff. This structure is beneficial to riding groups such as friends and family and is designed to facilitate a more comfortable and positive learning experience.

This class will consist of four hours of prerecorded talks that students will be required to watch on their own time. It will also include one, two-hour live Zoom session conducted on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 28th from 6-8 pm. The classroom time will be followed by two full field days conducted in the backcountry around Bozeman.

During this course, students will develop a solid foundation of skills needed to create and execute a safe travel plan when recreating in the backcountry. This course follows the American Avalanche Association (AAA) curriculum with an emphasis on: Recognizing avalanche terrain, assessing mountain snowpack/weather, understanding avalanche forecasts & problems, human factor/decision making, and companion rescue. This course is designed to build a strong foundation of backcountry skills and is the perfect stepping stone to more advanced training in the future.

All students will receive a Level 1 certificate at the end of the class.
