Extended Column Test Instructional Video #3

In this video, Eric Knoff explains how to set up an Extended Column Test (ECT) without using avalanche probes. This method involves doing two shovel shear tests, one on each end of the 90 cm column. This provides an open space on each end. In this method, only the back of the column needs to be isolated before applying standard loading steps. This method is good for isolating ECT columns if you're dealing with a deeper weak layer or stiffer slab. Eliminating avalanche probes altogether helps reduce friction and makes it easier to isolate the column.
